Are asda’s maternity pads and briefs any good?
Hiya,
Im planning on buying the last bits for my hospital bag tomorrow. We going to asds so was going to get maternity pads and briefs from there.
Has anyone used them? Are they any good? If not what about boots or mothercare?
Thanks ladies
I used them and they were fine. To be honest – I only needed them for about 3 days afterwards and then moved on to normal thin sanitary towels.
I didn’t use the disposable pants. I just bought some cheap, black ones from Primark – 6 pairs for £2 – which was the same price as the disposable ones and a hell of a lot comfier!
I figured that at only 50p each I could just chuck them if they got stained, but my post-partum bleeding wasn’t that heavy and I changed my maternity pad often, so no need to chuck them.
Hope that helps!
And good luck!

Ars Nova $16.98 Ars Nova’s first release was intermittently intriguing eclectic psychedelic rock with a slight classical influence, as well as some unusual instrumentation in the bass trombone of lead singer Jon Pierson and the trumpet and string bass of Bill Folwell. The songs — often linked by brief interludes — are a mixed bag, though, that seem to indicate a confusion over direction, or a bit of a psychedelic throw-in-everything-but-the-kitchen-sink approach. There are haunting tunes with a folk-rock base and a faint Renaissance ballad melodic influence, jaunty narratives with a vaudevillian air that bear the mark of then-recent albums such as Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, and harder-rocking period psychedelic tracks with a bent for unpredictable bittersweet progressions and vocal harmonies. It’s unusual, and in some senses attractive. But to be less charitable, there’s a sense of listening to a generic psychedelic band that sounds better than many such acts mostly by virtue of benefiting from Elektra’s high-class production, here handled by Paul Rothchild of Doors fame. Put another way, the songs themselves aren’t as good as their arrangements. “Fields of People,” about the best of those songs, might be the most famous one here due to getting covered in an elongated treatment by the Move, who did a better job with it than Ars Nova. [The 2004 CD reissue on Sundazed adds historical liner notes by Jon Pierson.] ~ Richie Unterberger, Rovi |

Automatic $13.96 The Jesus and Mary Chain’s third studio album was a mixed bag, a touch rougher and more aggressive-sounding than Darklands, but still not the equivalent of Psychocandy for sheer kicks. Part of the problem was the actual studio setup; while soon-to-be superstar producer/engineer Alan Moulder did a great job on the sound, finding a way to mix thick guitar rumbles without sounding uncommercial, the fact was that the band was really just the brothers at this point. Like on Darklands, all drumming was courtesy of machines, and here the approach often felt monotonous; Bobby Gillespie’s approach, for better or worse, really was distinct and individual, fitting with the style of the band beautifully. Meanwhile, much of the bass was also created via keyboards, another unusual switch. When Automatic was on, though, it was on, especially courtesy of another blazingly brilliant single. If “Sidewalking” was a T. Rex homage, “Head On” paid tribute to rock’s eternal image of supercharged cool; one can almost smell the black leather as Jim Reid delivers the ultimate “Break on Through” lyric: “Makes you wanna feel/Makes you wanna try/Makes you wanna blow the stars from the sky.” The music sure didn’t hurt either; even the synth bass sounded perfectly right. Other songs, like the brawling “Blues From a Gun” and the aggro-sneer of “Her Way of Praying,” suggest a new energy on the part of all involved, though likely enough they came across better live in the end with the Reids’ then-touring band of the time. Meanwhile, there are definitely some sharp individual moments: the sudden massive feedback clang during the instrumental break on “Coast to Coast,” the “Sweet Jane”-inspired melody on the nicely moving “Halfway to Crazy,” and the hint of strings on the brief “Drop.” ~ Ned Raggett, Rovi |

Christine [Original Motion Picture Soundtrack] $16.98 Christine, based on Stephen King’s novel about an unusual kind of car repossession, was taken by John Carpenter from book to screen in a blazingly short time. Rather than bypassing his usual methods, as he did with The Thing, Carpenter once again chose to do the score. The original soundtrack released from the movie was a brief affair indeed, offering up a small selection of rock & roll tunes used in the movie, plus a short selection (“Christine Attacks,” here with the subtitle “Plymouth Fury”) from Carpenter’s score. As it is, this Tangerine Dream-influenced, mechanically pounding number is probably the best thing in the score, highly visual, threatening, and relentless. As with the best of Carpenter’s work, it’s enough to haunt your dreams for a few days — a property shared by the scores for Halloween and The Fog (both on Varese Sarabande). Christine, though, suffers from a very rushed situation. Rather than having the time to craft something new, Carpenter reached back into the bag and pulled up variations on old themes. As a result, you can hear a variety of familiar elements in here, from the high-pitched synthesizers designed to make you quiver to revised score elements from Escape From New York, Halloween, and The Fog. The arpeggiated theme from Halloween is barely disguised in terms of musical structure (he builds on the same structure) while the forceful percussion-based pulse of the chase-type music is straight out of Escape From New York. In terms of the recording, the music sounds a little unfinished, and equalization isn’t the best, though hiss has been reduced to an inaudible level. The highs tend to be inconsistent, the lows, probably because of the synthesizers (sounding as though Carpenter’s Prophet V and Xs were giving way to Yamaha instruments) either on the feathery side or a little softer than they should be in the punchier parts of the score. For all the problems and weaknesses of this score, though, it still manages to rank above They … |

Hip Hop Essentials, Vol. 5 $13.98 On the fifth volume of the series, Tommy Boy’s Hip Hop Essentials remains true to its studied grab-bag aesthetic, emphasizing late-’80s cuts while including a couple choice old-school classics. To the delight of some hip-hop fans, nothing here could be termed a crossover novelty (? la “Funky Cold Medina”), and over-the-top raunch (? la “We Want Some P”) is also left off. Whether or not this is seen as a good thing, the disc isn’t one of the better volumes — the excitement level can’t compare to the second or seventh volumes, and a couple too many tracks are too tied to their years of release (unlike, say, Public Enemy’s still-riotous “Bring the Noize,” or even Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock’s deathless “It Takes Two”). The smartest selection on this disc is “Ring Ring Ring (Ha Ha Hey),” one of several examples why 3 Feet High and Rising should never be seen as the be-all end-all for De la Soul, a group that would remain a crucial part of hip-hop well over a decade after their breakthrough debut. The silly “Jimbrowski,” despite being a poor choice to represent the Jungle Brothers, maintains the brief Native Tongues theme, and Queen Latifah’s “Ladies First” (featuring Monie Love) remains as powerful and as fun-filled as it was in 1989. Other highlights: Funky 4 + 1′s “That’s the Joint,” Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five’s “Freedom,” Busy Bee’s “Making Cash Money.” ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi |

Trendy Totes: Three Criteria for Choosing Promotional Tote Bags
Promotional pens and mugs will always be the staples of any business’ advertising efforts. However, more businesses are choosing promotional tote bags as a means for spreading the advertising word than ever before.
Totes have long been highly useful items for most any aspect of life. They make handy carry-alls for text or library books, beach gear for a day at the lake, sewing and craft items, or for every day travel to work or school. Most everyone has some use for one, which is one reason that promotional tote bags are beginning outsell other types of business giveaways.
The second reason that promotional tote bags are gaining popularity: tote bags are trendy. Bags are a hot fashion item on the runway. They remain a “must have” accessory item, both for men and women. Today’s bags combine good old-fashioned practicality with modern designs and colors making them a fashion statement as well as a mode of transportation for everyday items.
Promotional tote bags come in a variety of styles and materials. Their ample size and flat surface make them ideal canvasses for any business logo. Once they’re taken on the go, they become mobile advertisements for your business.
Ready to begin your foray into the world of promotional tote bags? Choose your perfect advertising vehicle based on one or more of the following criteria:
1) Your target audience. If your business deals primarily with one sector of population (children, women, men, athletes, etc.), pick a style that will appeal to that sector. For example, duffel-style bags would make an appealing business giveaway for a hockey or basketball player.
2) A particular event. Trade shows are always a great place to showcase your business, services and/or products. If it’s a particular type of trade show, purchase promotional tote bags that “coordinate” with the theme of the event. Cosmetic totes would be an appropriate and memorable business giveaway for a women’s fair, for instance. Laundry tote bags would be fun gifts to hand out at a job fair on a university campus. Choosing totes that match the theme will help visitors remember your business afterwards.
3) Your budget. Promotional tote bags come in all kinds of styles and materials suitable for big or small advertising budgets. Heavyweight paper and lightweight plastic promotional tote bags are affordable even for small businesses and tight budgets. They tend to range in price from under a dollar to two dollars per unit. Canvas totes, a universal favorite, range from about $1.50 up to six or seven dollars per unit. Other economical ideas include lunch bags, back packs and cooler totes. More luxurious promotional tote bags include backpacks, computer bags, lightweight brief bags and flight carry-ons.
Sometimes it’s helpful to have a number of different types and styles of promotional tote bags on hand. This way you’ll be prepared for a variety of opportunities as they present themselves.
Promotional tote bags are practical for all ages and types of people. Tote bags with your logo will be a big hit with your customers. And who knows how far your logo will travel?
